AN INJURY-time goal from Gary Sheahan helped Wexford Youths to their unbeaten run and consolidate their position in the top six by taking a point away to Athlone Town in their Division 1 game played on Friday night last. Inspired by their thrilling 5-3 victory over Limerick the previous week, Wexford Youths played some attractive football, but missed out on a real opportunity to close the gap on the top five.

THE MOST striking aspect of the Youths 5-3 win over second placed Limerick on Friday night was the entertainment level - it was wonderful. And wonderful for Noel O'Connor, the butcher boy from Limerick - rumour has it that anyone who mentioned the game in the shop on Saturday got his meat at half price. And wonderful too for Gary Sheahan to score at the death after suffering endless abuse from the visiting supporters as he showed all night what they were missing.

DESPITE THEIR recent fine form few expected such a quality display as Wexford Youths really turned on the style with free-flowing football and five goals into the bargin as they demolished high-flying Limerick FC in this thrilling Airtricity League Divison 1 clash at Ferrycarrig Park on Friday evening last.

WEXFORD YOUTHS on their first-ever visit to the Brandywell failed to make it a winning one as leaders Derry City came from a goal down to take all three points from this Airtricity Division 1 game on Friday evening last. Having seen off Finn Harps the previous week, it looked for a period Wexford Youths were on their way to causing a shock when an early Danny Furlong strike gave them the lead.

TAKE A Bow Andres Iniesta. 'Inside Right' is getting a real sense of déja vu as it's the second time that this columnist has started an article with those five words. The previous occasion to send plaudits in the direction of the diminutive midfielder was after the 2009 Champions League semi-final when he scored a spectacular goal to deny the ultra-defensive Chelsea a place in the decider, after they tried to bore the Catalans into submission.

THE WEXFORD Kennedy Cup team finished in a creditable 14th position overall in the Kennedy Cup Competition that was held in Limerick recently, and but for a bit of luck in the penalty shoot-outs and player injuries they would have progressed further. At the outset of the competition, the management team held the confidence that this Wexford side possessed the potential to reach the latter stages of the Kennedy Cup.

TWO FIRST half goals from centre-back Anthony Wolfe set Wexford Youths on their way to an impressive three-goal victory over Finn Harps in their Division 1 game at Ferrycarrig Park on Friday night last. It was the commanding presence of Wolfe that contributed so much to Wexford Youths' victory as he moved forward in support of his front players to strike for two excellent firsthalf goals which helped the confidence of his side.
