IT ALL added up to 2,800 points, 1,600 Tries, 700 barbecued beefburgers, 220 men, 195 women, 168 tags, 150 matches, 30 teams, 25 African drums, 14 referees. And there are more stats. The 2010 Bud Light tag rugby season in Enniscorthy covered ten weeks, 6 pitches, 3 comedians and 2 cans of cream.

Along the way, there was a céilí and a lightning strike, all adding up to a fantastic summer of sport, drawn to an exciting conclusion last Saturday night.

At a packed Ross Road venue, finals night gave a run for players at all levels of skill and fitness in the non-contact and sociable brand of rugby. All the teams participated in playoffs on finals night, even if it was only to decide the wooden spoon position. However, the business end of the night was the three cup finals played under the new floodlights at the grounds.

' This year's Bud Light tag in Enniscorthy has exceeded expectations to the point that we had to expand the number of pitches, allowing for more teams and players to take part,' concluded venue manager, David Ryan. 'The atmosphere every Thursday night and particularly on finals night has been fantastic.'

Proceedings moved inside after the matches for trophy and wooden spoon presentations to winning (and losing) teams. Corks popped as bubbly and Bud Light overflowed from the trophies as teams celebrated!

The disco played into the wee hours, enlivened by scavenger hunts and a hilarious clothes line race.

' The social aspect of tag rugby has seen players who may never have even set foot in a rugby club visit our Ross Road home and it's great to see so many new faces around the club. Everywhere I go I hear people talking about the phenomenon that is tag,' remarked Enniscorthy R.F.C. president Charlie Kavanagh.
