Nolan edges closer to national Senior final
ADAM NOLAN edged closer to an Irish Senior boxing final when he pulled off an excellent victory at the National Stadium in Dublin on Saturday night last.
Boxing out of the Bray club, where he is based as a Garda, Adam, a native of Oulart where he began his career, has made steady progress on returning to the ring this season after a lengthy absence.
In the Senior championships last week, Adam bounced back after a ten-week absence with a hand injury to score a magnificent victory over Jonathan Dowling (Paulstown, Kilkenny). Dowling is a nephew of eight times Senior champion and television analyst, Mick.
Nolan, coached and trained by Pete Taylor, father of World ladies' champion, Katie, produced three outstanding rounds to get the better of Dowling in one of the top contests of the night.
Boxing out of the welterweight division, Nolan now comes up against current Irish Senior champion, Willie McLoughlin (Illies, Donegal), in the semi-final. McLoughlin is a very experienced boxer, having reached the World quarter-final.
Given the remarkable progress which Nolan has made this season, his camp is very happy with the tempo of his boxing which has brought him to this stage of the championship.
This will be a further step-up in class for young Nolan, but coach Pete Taylor is confident that his boxer can produce another top-class performance.
It was a great weekend for proud parents John and Ann Nolan. Delighted with Adam's progress, they also saw his brother, Darren, make his Senior intercounty hurling league debut against Westmeath in Mullingar on Sunday last.
