Island ease into last eight
Wednesday August 25 2010
OUR LADY'S Island defeated Gusserane at Cushinstown to qualify with Bannow-Ballymitty from Group D for the quarter-finals of the Junior hurling championship.
Gusserane knew that they had to win by at least eleven points to remain in contention, and for that reason they tended to try for goals but found the opposing custodian, Dean Maloney, in outstanding form as he kept his net intact with some top-class saves.
There was equal possession throughout a hard-fought first-half, but the Island led by 0-10 to 0-6 at the break.
And when Adrian Meyler scored the only goal midway through the second-half, they knew they were safely through.
There was some annoyance expressed by both teams that the pitch was not properly marked and no flags were in place.
