Hurling

Adamstown advance

Wednesday August 25 2010

BOTH TEAMS advanced to the quarterfinals from Group C of the Junior hurling championship despite the clearcut nature of the outcome at Farmleigh.

While Adamstown remained in pole position with three wins from three outings, Rapparees joined them in the last eight as they had the best scoring difference of the other three teams who all finished with two points. Rathnure and MonageerBoolavogue were the unlucky duo to miss out.

The Enniscorthy men were flying early on as Joe Cullen (two) and Garret Kavanagh struck points, and they maintained the lead until close to half-time when Adamstown grabbed their opening goal.

Thomas Furlong applied the finish after Michael Curtis had a scoring attempt saved, bringing the Ross District side back on level terms by the break (1-4 to 0-7).

Adamstown never looked back after driving ahead on the re-start, with points from Lorcan French and Shane O'Gorman followed by a Paddy Whitty goal after good work from James Breen.

Rapparees had little to offer in reply, with French and Whitty adding further points as Adamstown went on to fashion a convincing win.
