COOLLATTIN: The recent spate of very low scoring continued unabated at the weekend. In the 18 holes versus par competition, sponsored by G.H. Lett, the remarkable score of nine up was returned by ten handicapper Kevin Butler. Indeed, it could have been better for Kilkenny man Kevin, as he stood on the last tee on ten up. Runner-up was Pádraig McNally with seven up. Best gross went to Robert Tighe (9) with a score of one down. Third place went to Glenealy man, Michael O'Neill Snr., who returned a score of six up. The best Saturday and best Sunday prizes went to John Cox-Byrne (10) and Gerard Bolger (18).

FOLLOWING ON from last week's report on the success of teams from Wexford in the Leinster outdoor team competitions, this week's report centres on soccer, tag rugby, hardcourt tennis, girls' football, pitch and putt and Olympic handball. Again you will see how well Wexford competed in atrocious weather conditions. Perhaps that is a good omen for us.

ATHLETICS WEXFORD ladies' team had a great day at the National League round two on Sunday last at Morton Stadium in Santry. The team comprising some of Wexford's top female athletes performed very well, with many of them winning their individual events, in the process gaining maximum points for their team.

NEW ROSS SENIORS: We were blessed with the weather on Thursday last when all teams were on the home stretch before the rains came pelting down. The starters did a great job in getting the 14 teams away on time in view of what turned out to be a very accurate weather forecast.
