BALLYMONEY
Wednesday week's nine-hole was once again well attended and, even allowing for the strong wind, scoring proved very good. Shane Fox (12) emerged as winner with a superb 22 points including birdies on both par threes! Donal Byrne (8) was second with 21 points and club President Ron Breen (21) held on for third place with 20 points. The twos pot was shared by Shane, Donal and Ed Walsh.
The July medal was played off the back tees on Sunday week in wind that would have tested the players over at St. Andrew's! Thankfully the rain held off until late afternoon and most groups got in before it started. Robert Kehoe (12) coped best with the strong wind and posted the winning score of 38 points.
David Murphy (7) equalled his own course record of 77 strokes for second spot with 37 points, and Conor Tracey (16) took third place on countback with 36 points. Brian Delaney took the front nine prize and Brendan Malone had the best back nine prize.
Tara Meadows matchplay third round: Mark Read beat David Murphy.
Wednesday's nine-hole competition drew a very big attendance and was won by club Treasurer Leo Gleeson (12) with a fine 22 points. Kevin Furlong (23) took second spot from Brian Leavy (13) on countback with 21 points. Nobody had a two so the pot rolls over to next week.
Sunday's stableford was also very well attended and all the best scores were posted early in the day before the wind got up. Although the afternoon starters had blazing sunshine, the ever-strenghtening wind made scoring difficult.
Joe Lee (11) was out early and scored a truly remarkable 45 points! Joe shot a two over par round of 73 (from the green tees) and was the clear winner. Brian Delaney (12) had an excellent 39 points and held off Gavin Doyle (11) on countback. Brian Leavy also had 39 points and was unlucky to be outside the prizes. Best front nine prize went to Shane Fox, and the back nine prize went to Robert Fry.
Tara Meadows Matchplay second round: Andy Carroll beat Tom Hardiman; Charlie Logan beat Gavin Doyle; Sammy Walker beat Paul Piggott. Third round: Brian Delaney beat Joe Lee.
The usual Wednesday nine-hole competition is on this week, and on Saturday tnext here wil be a roll up stableford.
