ADAMSTOWN 4-10 KILMORE 2-5
Tuesday September 07 2010
ADAMSTOWN COLLECTED the ladies' football Senior Shield in the Bellefield curtain-raiser on Saturday last with a convincing double scores victory over Kilmore.
Leading by 2-5 to 1-4 at the break, the Ross District crew asserted their dominance on the re-start as two quick goals put the game beyond reach.
Kilmore relied entirely on the accurate Lisa Goff for their scores, and she picked off the first two points before Adamstown struck for a Maura Carroll goal in the sixth minute following good work by Lizzy Kent.
While Goff brought Kilmore level, they conceded the next four points on the trot before a mini-revival resulted in a further 11 from Goff, the goal courtesy of a 35-metre free.
However, Adamstown ended the half brightly as Ann-Marie Dunphy converted a free before Nikki Dunphy picked out captain Chantelle Martin for a goal to establish a 2-5 to 1-4 lead.
It was game, set and match less than two minutes into the new half as further Adamstown majors were added by the two Dunphys. Kilmore didn't score again until the 44th minute when Majella Byrne took the burden off Lisa Goff, and by that stage the leaders had tacked on another brace of points courtesy of Laura Hickey and Chantelle Martin.
Although Goff goaled from the penalty spot after being fouled with 14 minutes left, Kilmore didn't score again whereas Adamstown emphasised their superiority with points from Ann-Marie Dunphy, Chantelle Martin and Leann Murphy.
