Kilanerin get back in the race

Wednesday July 28 2010

KILANERIN ARE back in the race for possible qualification from Group A of the Jack O'Leary Intermediate football championship after seeing off St. Mary's (Maudlintown) in St. Patrick's Park, Enniscorthy, on Sunday last.

They overcame a slow start which saw the Wexford town team move into a 0-3 to 0-1 lead before a Cathal D'Arcy penalty goal near the end of the first quarter helped to push them into a 1-3 to 0-4 lead.

It was 1-6 to 0-5 by the break after further points from D'Arcy, Jim Hughes and Enda O'Leary, and Kilanerin closed out the game effectively in a less than inspiring secondhalf.

D'Arcy and Michael Byrne stretched the advantage to 1-9 to 0-6 with nine minutes left, and there was no way back for St. Mary's who are now out of contention after shipping their second defeat.

Kilanerin will be underdogs in their last game against Kilmore, but at least they have a chance to make progress thanks to this success which was well deserved on the run of play.
