ST. MARTIN'S: Pride of place this week must go to our Under-14 girls who beat Oulart-The Ballagh by 4-6 to 0-1 in the Premier camogie county final on Monday evening last in Wexford Park.
This was an oustanding achievement considering that they only returned to Piercestown late on Sunday night, having represented Wexford in the Féile Peil finals at the weekend in Derry. Well done to all of them and their management team of Ornagh, Michael, Noel and Donal.
The Tony Boggan finals in hurling and camogie will take place on Sunday morning next in the pitch. All the younger boys and girls are looking forward to this great event which is always enjoyed by the children and even more so by the excited mammys and daddys. I'm sure there will be a huge turnout as usual on Sunday.
Well done to Daithí and Ciarán on their great win against Galway on Saturday and we are looking forward to Wexford taking on Cork in Wexford Park at the weekend. Loch Garman abú.
Congratulations to Noeleen Lambert and theWexford camogie team who had a great win over Tipperary at the weekend and will be playing against Cork this Saturday.
There are numerous matches going on at the moment in all age groups. You can find all the fixtures on the relevant page in this paper. Please come out and support our teams.
The club shop is open every Wednesday evening and Sunday morning and if you need anything urgently please contact Derek or Susie. Anyone with items for these notes can contact me at bridquigley1@hotmail.com
CLONGEEN
When I sent in these notes to the paper last week I congratulated Sarah Murphy who was the captain of theWexford second team which won the Under-12 girls' football blitz in Carlow on the June Bank holiday weekend. I wasn't aware that we also had another player on the Wexford team, Bernadette White, who scored 1-1. I have been made aware of this and I apologise to her and her family for omitting to mention her in that report. Well done to her also.
This week we congratulate Marty Reville who was playing with the Wexford Under16 hurlers on Saturday last in a blitz which was played in Thomastown. Well done to him.
The Under-12s were beaten by Cushinstown in their hurling match on Tuesday evening. The Minor footballers were to play Volunteers on Wednesday night but Volunteers couldn't field a team.
Our Under-10 footballers were unlucky to come up against a strong Taghmon team on Wednesday evening. We fielded a very young team with only two or three players up to age. They weren't strong enough and were beaten.
The Under-14 footballers were away to Horeswood on Thursday evening. This match was postponed, as was the Minor hurling match against St. James' that had been due to be played on Sunday.
We would like to wish Ann Sinnott, Clongeen, a speedy recovery from illness.
TAGHMON-CAMROSS
The Taghmon-Camross Under-8s had a wonderful day out on Tuesday last in Croke Park. They had a good victory over St. Malachy's of Louth. The players had the opportunity to experience the dressingroom and warm-up facilities as well as play on the famous pitch.
After the game they all walked the steps to the presentation area to have their pictures taken with a trophy. The children celebrated with a Big Mac and chips in Stillorgan on the journey home. All the mentors would like to thank the parents/adults who travelled and gave their support. The support helped to add to the occasion for the children.
The players would like to thank David Foley for helping to organise a wonderful day and finally, coming soon, pictures of the day on the new website, so keep an eye out for them.
The 24-hour walk takes place on Friday and Saturday next, July 16 and 17. There are still some spaces on the timesheet. Please contact Diarmuid Buttimer on 0874121899 for any further details required. Please come along and support. We hope that this will be the only major fundraiser that we will have to run for the year.
A group of four walkers is ¤40. We appeal to all players, members, parents, team mentors, and all other users of the facilities to come along to walk for just one hour. All monies raised are for the upkeep of the facilities.
Congratulations to Michael Carty, Youngstown, who won a ¤ 200 Sports Savers voucher, and to Eoghan & C&C McGee, Deerpark, who won ¤100 in the final Co. Development Draw. Many thanks to everyone that purchased tickets this year and helped to support both the county G.A.A. and also the local club.
Hearty congratulations to the county Senior football squad who travelled to a wet and windy Galway on Saturday last, and as underdogs came away with a great win. Congratulations again to clubman Aindreas Doyle, who has now become a regular on the starting 15. We wish them 'good luck' again this weekend with a home draw to Cork.
Upcoming fixtures are now dependent on the progress of both the county Under-21 hurling Team and the county Senior football team. Next week we should have some further details.
ST. JOHN'S VOLUNTEERS
The lotto this week was in The Crown Bar, and numbers were 2, 5, 25 and 28. There was no jackpot winner. Congratulations to our match three winners, Darragh Hayes and Billy Farrell. Bboth tickets were sold by the Crown Bar. Thank you for your continued support.
It was a great week for our under-age, as the Under-12 boys won against Clonard in hurling, the Under-14 boys won against Duffry Rovers in football, and the Under-16s won also.
George Cullen attended the D.J. Carey school of hurling as part of the Wexford Under-14 hurling squad. It was a fantastic chance for any under-age player to get, and he really enjoyed the experience.
Congrats to Jim Turner and Hannah Nolan who were married last week. We wish them many years of happiness, and may there be plenty of little Vols for them also.
On Tuesday last our Under-16 ladies' football team travelled to Blackwater to play St. Bridget's in their Division 3 championship fixture. Unfortunately, the weather changed for the worst and the two teams had to endure a wind and rain-lashed pitch. Although the conditions did not lend themselves to an enjoyable evening of playing or watching football, the match favoured the Vols and the girls won well, with some strong individual performances from the girls. Well done girls.
Our ladies' adult team travelled to Bunclody on Friday night last to play in their second-last fixture of the league and played in similar conditions our Under-16s had to play in on Tuesday night. The girls gained their points as Bunclody could not field a Junior team. Instead our girls played against their Intermediate team and played with great determination and fervour.
Although Bunclody were the stronger team, our girls never gave up and showed some great phases of attack and defensive play. You can see the improvement that this team has gained since forming at the start of the year. With some more training this team should do well in their upcoming championship.
The club wishes all the best to Niamh Butler who will be representing the club on the Wexford Under-16 ladies' football squad, and to the rest of the team in their Leinster final this Sunday against Kildare.
GLYNN-BARNTOWN
Best wishes to Mark, John, Pádraig, Micheal and selector Garry Laffan as they look to help Wexford win the Leinster Under-21 hurling championship in Dublin this evening. The Glynn-Barntown connection does not end there as Barntown resident Tony Dempsey is the manager and a good friend of ours, Johnny Doyle, is involved behind the scenes. We wish them every success.
The Under-10 camogie team are in county semi-final action this coming Saturday. The time and venue were not confirmed at time of writing but the opponent is St. Ibar's. Best of luck to our girls. The Under12s continued their outstanding form with a seventh win in a row in their championship.
A disco for sixth class and upwards takes place this coming Friday, July 16, from 8.30 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the clubhouse. Admission is ¤5.
ST. JAMES'
The Intermediate ladies' football side kept up their fine recent form with a 3-17 to 1-1 win against Horeswood in the championship on Wednesday last.
The goals were picked off in the first-half by Sonja Murphy, Catherine Doyle and Aisling Mullan. The score at the end of the firsthalf was 3-6 to 0-1 and it was a mark of how strong the St. James' defence was that there was just 0-1 conceded in the secondhalf.
Scorers: Catherine Doyle (1-8), Sonja Murphy (1-2), Aisling Mullan (1-0), Sarah O'Brien, Aishling Colfer and Kellie Mullan (0-2 each), Bríd Kehoe (0-1).

The Minor footballers had a good win away to Clonard on Wednesday last. The lads edged by the opposition by a point with a 2-9 to 2-8 scoreline.
Despite being two points adrift, against a strong breeze, with five minutes remaining they showed their mettle to grab three points before the final whistle.
Those to shinewere goalkeeper J. Barron, S. Drought in defence, Tadhg Rush in midfield, Enda Crosbie and Mark Meyler. Tomás Power scored 1-3 while Jason O'Grady notched up 1-1.
The Under-16 boys' football side were beaten by a strong Castletown side in Mersheen on Monday of last week. The north county side ran out winners by four points (3-12 to 3-8).
Scorers for St. James' were Shane Murphy, Michael Foley, Michael O'Grady, Adam Parle, Daniel Keating and Enda Crosbie.
The Under-14 football side defeated Blackwater by 4-9 to 1-5 on Thursday evening last to keep their good run going. Alan Walsh was in fine form and grabbed three goals.
Congratulations to Brendan Doyle and Graeme Molloy on playing their part in the Wexford Senior football side's victory in Galway last weekend. Best of luck to Matthew O'Hanlon who starts at full-back for the Wexford Under-21 hurling team this Wednesday (July 14) against Dublin in Parnell Park.
ST. JOSEPH'S
We play Duffry Rovers this Thursday at 7.30 p.m. in Páirc Charman in the championship. A win will see us into a county semifinal.
We play Duffry Rovers again on Sunday in the league final, to be decided (check fixtures).
Our bag pack in Tesco is on July 23 and 24. If anyone has a couple of hours to spare on either day, please contact any committee member. If anyone wants to purchase merchandise, contact Wayne Rogan (0872819024).
BLACKWATER
Blackwater Coiste na nÓg will hold their annual field day in Blackwater G.A.A. pitch on Sunday next, July 18, between 2 and 5 p.m. Fun for all the family with pony rides, stalls, hurling and football competitions, face painting, tug of war and much, much more. All will be welcome.
Bottles, tins, teddy bears and any other donations for prizes would be greatly appreciated. This field day is the main fundraiser for the under-age club so please come along and bring the family. A great day is guaranteed.
FAYTHE HARRIERS
This year's Faythe Harriers summer camp will take place between Monday, August 9, and Friday, August 13. All details are available from Eoin Ó Donnagáin at 0863873544.
Each day's coaching will be from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. and all children will be supervised at all times during this period. The camp is open to both boys and girls aged from ages six up to 14 years of age.
Everybody is welcome to participate and it is not necessary to be a member of the club to take part in the week's fun. For the first time, a new innovation is being introduced into this year's camp, namely the Richie Kehoe School of Hurling, which will cater for 13-and 14-year-olds.
The Under-21s had a wonderful win over local rivals St. Martin's on Monday night of last week in Piercestown in the opening round of the championship. The Martin's led throughout and with ten minutes remaining still held onto a six-point lead. However, our lads battled to the end to bring the game to extra time.
We continued our improvement in the added 20 minutes to eventually win by 4-20 to 3-11. Our four goals came from Noel Walsh (two), Seán Slaven and Lee Smith. We have now qualified to play Oulart in the Premier quarter-final, and this game is likely to take place in Páirc Charman on Monday next, July 19.
With most Wexford county teams now having departed from their respective championships, it is likely that the local adult championships should recommence shortly, with the first weekend in August being the likely date. Our Senior team are due to play Rathnure in the second round of the championship, while our Junior 'A' team are due to play Horeswood in their next game.
Our Junior 'D' team played their third championship game on Friday night last when we made the short trip to Coolcotts to take on Clonard. We played against the strong wind in the first-half and only trailed by 0-8 to 0-4 at the break.
We got the first three points of the second-half and looked to be making a real battle of it, but two quick goals from our opponents kept them well ahead.
We kept going to the end with goals from Lee Smith and Damien Roche bringing us to within five points, but time ran out and we were beaten by 2-11 to 2-6.
We have one remaining game in the championship but cannot now qualify for the knockout stages.
