Colin wins gold in combined events with fine displays

BEST OF luck to all Wexford athletes who will take part in the final round of the A.A.I. national track and field league this coming Saturday (August 14) in Tullamore, Co. Offaly. The Athletics Wexford ladies' team is competing very well and is currently in fourth place in Division 1 of the league after the first two rounds.
Best of luck to all Wexford athletes who will be taking part in the Woodies DIY AllIreland masters track and field championships this coming Sunday (August 15) in Tullamore.
There will be an athletic coaching course in Wexford in early September, with the venue to be confirmed. There is also the possibility of a level one course if we have enough interest. Could clubs let John Joe Doyle (0539120960/ 085-1744481) know as soon as possible so that we can get the course into the calendar.
The Woodies DIY All-Ireland combined events championships were held over the weekend of July 31 and August 1in Tullamore, and there were some excellent performances by Wexford juveniles.
Colin Nolan (Enniscorthy A.C.) won gold in the Under-16 boys' pentathlon (100m hurdles, high jump, long jump, shot putt and 800m). Kalem Mahon (Enniscorthy A.C.) won bronze in the Under-17 boys' octathlon (100m, 400m, high jump, long jump, shot putt, 110m hurdles, javelin and 1,000m). Catríona Corcoran (Bree A.C.) won silver in the Under-18 girls' heptathlon (100m hurdles, 200m, high jump, javelin, long jump, shot putt and 800m).
The Woodies DIY All-Ireland 'B' track and field championships were held in Tullamore on Sunday, August 1, and two Wexford athletes brought medals home. Peter O'Connor (Enniscorthy A.C.) won bronze in the Under-13 boys' long jump and Claire Stephenson ( Adamstown A.C.) won bronze in the Under-15 girls' high jump.
The next of the mile runs organised by D.M.P. fit4life group in aid of Wexford Special Olympics club is on tonight (Wednesday) at 8 p.m., with the final two races on Wednesday, August 25, and Monday, September 6, at 7 p.m. on both nights. The races take place on the athletics track at Sinnottstown Lane, Wexford, and each entrant will receive a time for the classic one-mile distance. Why not come along, test yourself and help a good cause at the same time.

S.B.R. pair Tommy McElwaine and Willie Rossiter both had good runs in the Rathgormack five miles road race on Friday evening last, with the pair placing fourth and fifth respectively in times of 28.48 and 28.58.
