The 'County Wexford Housing Strategy' document, just issued from County Hall includes a number of points of specific interest to Enniscorthy

n Enniscorthy has the highest number of traveller families on its housing list, among the four districts in County Wexford, figures released by officials have revealed. The statistics show that 69 the traveller applications received for local authority housing are from Enniscorthy town and district. This puts the north west of the county slightly ahead of New Ross (with 64 applications), far outstripping Wexford (35) while Gorey has just 7.

n Wexford County Council has no shortage of land in the Enniscorthy when it comes to satisfying its housing needs, according to data published recently. The local authority owns 42 acres around the town, including 30 acres at Cherryorchard, near to the road to Caim. The council has a land bank of similar size in Gorey and 37 acres in new Ross, as well as 17 acres at Bunclody.

n The Waterford based Respond housing group is by far the biggest player in the 'voluntary housing association' sector in County Wexford, it has been confirmed. The group is responsible for the Sean Browne Crescent and Daphney View developments in Enniscorthy. It has already completed 146 homes in the county and another 14 are on the way. However, the Dublin based St. Pancras group is doing its best to catch up. So far they have completed just 12 homes at Springvalley but another 114 are on the way, including an estate in Ferns.
