PRESIDENT OF THE VETERINARY COUNCIL OF IRELAND
Wednesday February 03 2010
GOREY VET Lindy Vaughan has been appointed President of the Veterinary Council of Ireland. This is the statutory body responsible for regulation of the Veterinary and Veterinary Nursing professions in Ireland.
Lindy was appointed to the prestigious post having served on the Veterinary Council for the past eight years, and headed up its education committee.
She qualified as a vet in 1986, and is primarily based at the Veterinary College in UCD where she lectures.
Her father Johnny, of Vaughan's Veterinary Practice in Gorey, previously served as President of the Veterinary Council in the 1970s, and this is the first time a father and child have both held the post.
She is also just the second woman to hold the post. She pointed out that between seventy and eighty per cent of students doing veterinary in UCD are women.
Lindy said she was delighted and honoured to be elected to the post, and is looking forward to a busy two years.
