Parade to be best yet
THE organisers of the Gorey's St. Patrick's Day Parade believe that next Sunday's parade will be better than ever. On the line up are dozens of entries with plenty of different floats, marching groups, vintage entries, fancy dress and music from the five marching bands entering the parade, including bands from US, UK and Ireland.
The parade on Sunday March 16 starts at 3 p.m. and will be led by this year's Grand Marshal Sean Stafford and accompanied by the Naomh Eanna GAA club who nominated him.
Parade organisers are asking those going to Gorey for the Parade to leave plenty of time to get into the town and get parking.
The Parade will begin from the Monument, down the Main Street and ending on Esmonde Street, where the reviewing platform will be located. Esmonde Street will be closed for through traffic until after the Parade.
There will be music on the platform at the Market House from 2 p.m. from local traditional band Arís and the West Point Marching band from America will be playing on Esmonde Street after the parade until the prizes are presented.
Spectators, especially those with children, are asked to view the Parade from a safe distance and listen to the instructions of stewards so it can be a safe and fun day for all.
The organisers are calling on anyone interested in helping out for a few hours on the day to contact Claire on (087) 7562827. It is vital for the safe running of the parade that we have volunteers to help out during the parade,' said Claire.
Business owners are asked to make a special effort with their shop windows and there is a prize for the best shop window.
