Oak Tavern awaits new motorway route

Tuesday September 07 2010

PLANS to redevelop the Oak Tavern pub have been put on hold until the National Roads Authority reveals its preferred route for the new Oylegate to Rosslare motorway.

McGuinness Enterprises was granted planning permission earlier this year for a bar and restaurant and all associated site works on their site at the foot of Ferrycarrig Bridge.

The proposed development represents the substantial replacement of the former Oak Tavern building on the site at Newtown, which was destroyed by a fire in 2006. Kieran McGuinness, a director of the company along with his brother Bernard, said this week they are now awaiting the NRA's decision before they make they make any further plans to develop their site.

The new route chosen by the NRA could involve a Slaney crossing at another point.
