WEXFORD will welcome the mystical and magical at the end of November as part of the Wexworlds festival.

Wexworlds, Ireland's biggest Science Fiction and Fantasy Fiction Festival, was launched on Monday by Wexford author and festival patron Eoin Colfer.

The festival takes place across Wexford on the weekend of November 25 to 27 and there is a great line-up of events, which are expected to attract some 3,000 Sci-fi fans to the town.

Readings and talks from some of the world's most acclaimed Sci-fi writers will take place throughout the festival weekend, including a talk with author Ian Mcdonald on November 26, Ian will read excerpts from his fiction novels River of Gods, Brasyl and Chaga Saga.

Alex Scarrow, acclaimed author, graphic artist and computer games designer, will host a reading and book signing. He will talk about his books and life creating his Time Riders series.

Readings and workshops will also be hosted by Irish author Peadar O'guilin, who wrote The Inferior, and Eoin Colfer himself, who will host a reading from his own impressive collection of works, including the Artemis Fowl series, for schoolchildren.

Other highlights of the festival include 'How to Navigate the Night Sky' with Astronomy Ireland, an 'Awesome Comic Book Workshop' with Nick Roche, a Sci-fi and Fantasy Fiction Bazaar, a Star Wars Craft Quest, a Space Toys Workshop and Lego Workshops with Lego Ambassador James Shields, as well as a Caca Milis Wexworlds Cabaret and a Cos Play Teen Disco.

Bui Bolg will host workshops for making wands and wizard costumes, space toys and pop-up monsters.

'The weekend is a mecca for Sci-fi and Fantasy Fiction enthusiasts with activities and workshops for the young and the not so young,' said festival organiser Elizabeth Whyte of Wexford Arts Centre.
