Man was so drunk he could not walk
A MAN who was 'so drunk he was unable to walk properly' was fined €200. Hubert O'donoghue (55) with addresses at Blackhall Lane, Killurin, Glynn, Enniscorthy, No Fixed Abode and 126 Sycamore Road, Finglas, Dublin 11 was charged with disorderly conduct and being intoxicated in a public place at John Street, Carlow on August 22, 2011. He was further charged with being intoxicated in a public place at John Street on August 13, 2011. The court heard O'donoghue had had eight addresses between 1999 and 2011 and went by several names including Richard O'donoghue. Solicitor Brendan O'flaherty said O'donoghue's passport was Richard Hubert O'donoghue but said he was known locally as Hugh. Inspector Martin Walker said at 9.40pm on August 13, 2011 gardai came across O'donoghue who was 'so drunk he was unable to walk properly or look after himself '. He said on August 27, 2011 O'donoghue was asked by his partner to leave the apartment and he was seen by gardai in the vicinity 'causing an annoyance and shouting'. Solicitor Brendan O'flaherty said one of the incidents occurred during a 'further breakdown with his former partner'. He said both of the parties had consumed alcohol and words had been exchanged. He said O'donoghue left the apartment in a distressed state and asked for the keys to stay in the car. Mr. O'flaherty said he had since spoke to O'donoghue's former partner who was 'quite sympathetic'. He said there previously had been a barring order in place but it had been lifted. He said O'donoghue had had 'at various stages issues with alcohol' and had also had long periods of abstinence. O'donoghue, he said, was not working now but previously had run his own company employing a lot of people. Judge David Anderson fined him €200 for being intoxicated on August 13, 2011 and marked the other matters proven and taken into account.
