Gorey-based Garda Superintendent Maura Lernihan confirmed last Friday that Larry Murphy was not in the Gorey or Courtown area.
'We can't disclose his location, but I want to assure people that he wasn't here,' she said. 'We know where he is, and he's being managed quite closely.'
She confirmed that Gorey Garda Station had received many calls about the rumoured sightings from anxious members of the public.
'Every Garda Station is getting the same calls,' she said. 'There have been supposed sightings all over the country.'
She confirmed that the Sex Offenders Management and Intelligence Unit in Harcourt Square has a plan and is monitoring Larry Murphy. 'They have a structure in place to manage convicted sex offenders and they are managing him and other offenders and it's working,' she said.
'He's not living in this area,' she repeated. 'The restriction by law is about where he lives, and he's not living here.'
