A LOCAL Councillor has called a public meeting for this Thursday evening to set people's minds at ease, after last week's panic over sightings of convicted rapist Larry Murphy in the local area.

Cllr. Jimmy Fleming said he would hold the meeting in Jimmy'z pub this Thursday, August 26, at 8 p.m.

'I've asked the Gardai to come and clarify everything and put everything to bed,' he said.

A representative from the Community Council is also expected to speak at the meeting.

'A lot of elderly people contacted me and are worried, and I have assured them that he's not around and never was,' said Cllr. Fleming. 'I've been guaranteed this by top Gardai.'

'This has to stop now,' he said. ' It could lead to some innocent person being attacked if somebody believes him to be Larry Murphy. I believe the Irish Independent when they said he is in an institution in Dublin. But some people just can't be convinced he wasn't here.'

'People in Beachside are very upset about this,' he added. 'Their estate was singled out, and there were mobs of people congregating there.'

He urged people to come to the meeting if they have any worries. 'This is still a nice community to live in and always will be,' he said.
