FCJ orchestra jets off to Woonsocket, USA
WOONSOCKET IN Rhode Island is once more the destination, as the orchestra from the FCJ School in Bunclody head across the Atlantic. The party of 87 students and eight adults will be extending a tradition that dates back to the midnineties when contacts were first established with their counterparts at the Mount St. Charles School.
On this occasion, the musicians will depart on February 10 to enjoy the half term break in Rhode Island under conductor Dale Hennessy. The party will include mentors Eileen Martin, Liam Martin and John O'neill who were also on the three previous expeditions in the series. They will be meeting up with old friends such as teacher Mark Blanchette, who is well known in Bunclody after repeated visits with his students to Ireland. On this occasion, the Irish band will perform not only in Mount St. Charles but also at local primary schools.
And they have been invited to provide half time entertainment at the Dunkin Donuts Centre when the Providence Bruins take on the Albany Devils in a big ice hockey match.
Their itinerary will also include a tour of the sights in Boston and a short stay in New York city where they will attend the musical 'Rent' on Broadway.
