MANY OF THE top prizes on offer at the 40th Wexford Bridge Congress held in White's Hotel were won by Wexford players. There was a big turnout for the weekend with the venue packed to capacity. Sheila Gallagher from Carlow, the National President of the CBAI, was Guest of Honour for the weekend and presided at the official opening on Friday night while Regional President Noel Grant from Waterford was represented by Mary Kilgallen.

There was keen competition in all events and Wexford players showed that they have the ability to compete with the best in the country picking up many of the prizes on offer. Stephen Scallan and Katherine Lennon from Wexford won the Mixed Pairs while Watty Kelly and Anna Kavanagh from Enniscorthy were third. Joan Codd and Teresa Cowman from Wexford won Friday night's Novice competition with Ann and Dan Clarke, also Wexford, in third place. Jim Sexton and Tommy Tierney from Wexford were second in the Congress Pairs while Stephen Scallan and Katherine Lennon got the second session prize. Richard Walsh and Maurice Brosnan from Wexford won the Intermediate Pairs while Bernie Foley and Mary Mahon from Bunclody got the second session prize. Katherine Lennon and Jim Doyle were part of the team which finished second in the Congress teams competition while the Novice Pairs on Sunday night was dominated by Wexford players with Edie Brosnan and Genevieve Moynihan winning and Val Mernagh and Ruth Deignan second with the beginners prize going to Niall Byrne and Vandra Deacon.
