THREE CHEQUES from three different groups added up to a new bus for clients of the Community Workshop in Enniscorthy. CWCW chief executive Trevor Jacob was delighted to receive the money last week at a pleasant ceremony in the workshop.
The cheques came from the parents and friends of St. Anthony's Unit (€10,000), from John Cullen and his team who staged a fun weekend at Tullycanna (€3,000) and from Dermot Redmond whose brother is a CWCW service user (€2,400).
The bus will be busy bringing people from the workshop campus on various outings, and it will also be at the disposal of the residents living in hostels at St. Anthony's Unit and Loyola.
Meanwhile, the people carrier which the 9seater Renault Trafic replaces, will come in useful at Kilcannon Industries.
' There are no State grants at the moment, so we are indebted to the people in the community who continue to do good work for us,' remarked Trevor Jacob. He explained that the bus will allow people to enjoy outings to the likes of Johnstown Castle and the National Heritage Park or just to go on simple shopping trips.
The availability of transport also ensures that regular visits to the swimming pool at the Waterfront leisure centre or to riding lessons at Sandra Maguire's equestrian centre in Ballycanew continue to be part of the programme. The bus will be on call to help service users keep medical appointments.
CWCW is one of Enniscorthy's employers, with 200 staff, of whom 100 are full time, with 200 day service users and 26 residents in five different homes.
