HOUSE OF STORIES

There was a large attendance at the House of Stories in Ballindaggin last week. The music, singing, recitations and stories were exceptional and much enjoyed by all. Sympathy was extended to Mary Byrne, Ciss Cox and Jim Doyle on their recent bereavements and a minutes silence was observed.

Bean an Tí Anne paid tribute to the late George Byrne who she said was a devoted patron of the House of Stories never missing a session except through ill health. He loved every aspect of it from meeting people, chatting, music, recitations, songs, stories and especially the tea break as George had a very sweet tooth. Before the raffle he often joked 'it must be my turn to win tonight'.

In return he had the respect and admiration of all the House of Stories patrons and that was evident by the huge number of people who attended his wake, funeral and those who formed the guard of honour and Mary Butler who sang 'The Parting Glass' at the graveside.

To each and all a thank you, we will miss George, his friendship, his gentleness and his sense of fun and Anne said she can only imagine how his family are missing him as above all he was a devoted family man. To his wife Mary, his sons Adrian, Billy, Garrett, Shane and Karol, his sisters, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and sisters-in-law Anne and Lil and brother-in-law Joe we express sympathy. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Good wishes were extended to some patrons who are unwell; Tom Hipwell, Nellie Hayden, Mary Lambert, Jim Nolan, Sheila Correll Noel Doyle and Pat Mcgill. Raffle winners on the night were as follows; Mary Winters, Ned Kirwan, Michael Pierce, Filey Cullen, Anne Quigley, Denis Norton, Mary Norton, Ned Foley, Mary Doyle and Pat Murphy. Many thanks to all
