ST. STEPHEN'S DAY SWIM

As you sit down to your dinner on St. Stephens Day, spare a thought for our very busy postman, Nicky White, who despite all the hard work leading up to Christmas, will head off to Curracloe beach for his annual swim. He will brave the harsh elements of the day and dive into the sea. He is helping to raise funds for the HOPE Foundation centre in Enniscorthy.

Sponsorship cards are in circulation and if you would like to take one please contact Nicky on 086-3706807. Any donation would be most acceptable. Good luck to him.

CHURCH ACTIVITIES

Mass on Christmas Eve (Thursday, December 24) will be celebrated at 11 p.m. while Mass on Christmas Day (December 25) will be at 11.15 a.m. A parish Mission will take place from January 30 to February 5, 2010.

HOUSE DESTROYED BY FIRE

Fire destroyed the home of Niall and Bridgetta McDonald in the small hours of Thursday morning last. Thankfully, all got out safe and well.

Bridgetta woke up to the sound of crackling noises in the attic and quickly woke her husband. Their first priority was the safety of their four young girls and, not waiting to collect any possessions, they vacated the house which was rapidly filling up with dense smoke and fire.

All they had left were the clothes they stood up in. The house was gutted to the ground and at the time of going to press, the family have been re-housed for the time being in the parish.

The family have been inundated with offers of food, clothes, toys, beds etc with people, not alone from the parish but indeed around the county, offering what little help they can.

In a time of recession, we can still dig deep into our pockets and help those in desperate need. Being Christmas time too, it brings people closer together and that real community spirit is now coming into its own.

Although the family lost all those lovely mementos of their children's lives to date and cherished memories, nothing can compensate for being alive and having the children with them.

We hope that will be a big comfort to the parents as they try to get their lives back on track again. A Bank of Ireland account has been set for anyone wishing to donate funds - the McDonald Fire account has been set up in Taghmon. The number is 41117512, Sort Code 90 66 62.
