Wexford business in a healthy state

Tuesday February 14 2012

COUNTY WEXFORD has been ranked seventh in a national survey of business health.

The county performed well in a 2011 survey carried out by Experian, the global information services company.

Using a credit risk scoring system, the company analysed various data to assess every county in Ireland.

Tipperary came out on top with the lowest number of its companies in the high or maximum credit risk category.

Wexford came in seventh place nationally with 43.43% of businesses in the high risk category.

However, its position has slipped since 2010 when it was in sixth place.

A growth change of -2.93% was also recorded in the county last year.

Experian also analysed the number of new businesses established during the year along with the number of companies that folded, to determine whether the business environment was growing or contracting in each county.

A total of 15 of the 26 counties have a Business Health Index of 100 or under which means more than half the counties in Ireland are performing better than the national average in terms of the level of risk in their local business populations, according to Experian.

The poorest performing counties were Galway, Leitrim, Westmeath and Sligo.
