Enniscorthy heading back in time to celebrate the rock n' roll of the 1950s

Wednesday July 07 2010

PREPARATIONS ARE under way to bring Enniscorthy back to the 1950s for a weekend. The 'Riverside Jump' festival will bring the rock sounds of the decade to The Bailey for three days – Friday, July 16.to Sunday, July 18. And the music will be backed up by the vehicles of the time.

Eamonn Doyle and his fellow enthusiasts at 'Rock Pop Boogie' reckon that their summertime festival is unique on the Irish scene. The blend of rock 'n roll and rockabilly with classic cars and motorbikes will certainly make for quite a spectacle.

The organisers promise nine live acts and five DJs over the weekend, including some of the best bands from Ireland, the UK and continental Europe. The main attraction will be the Saturday, July 17 programme when amarquee will be erected in the main car park at The Bailey.

The mega tent will accommodate seven bands, a line up that features Aces Wild from Dublin and the Sabrejets from Belfast, along with British visitors Bill Fadden & The Rhythm Busters and The Houserockers. They will be mixing it with internationally renowned acts Charlie Hightone & The Rockits from Spain, The Barnshakers from Finland and Wildfire Willie & The Ramblers from Sweden. Indoors, the DJ line up features Gerry Robinson, Oona Fortune, Kit Kola, H-Bomb Gav and Lew Boogie.

Throughout the festival, the Old Barracks will have a host of classic American cars and bikes on display, with a colourful car cruise through the streets of Enniscorthy on the Saturday evening.

Tickets for the event are on sale now at www.tickets.ie and the price covering admission on all 3 days is ¤40 including booking fee. Car owners who want to take part and attend the gigs will get entry for ¤20 for driver and ¤30 for one passenger. Any car owners who just want to take part in car elements can do so free of charge.
