Tuesday November 10 2009

A former student has surrendered to police after taking a school administrator hostage at an upstate New York high school.

The gunman surrendered at Stissing Mountain High School on Tuesday morning.

Town Supervisor Gregg Pulver said the gunman was a man in his 40s. He said no shots were fired.

The school, about 90 miles north of New York City, had been on lockdown.

Armed officers stood guard at the front door of the school. The handcuffed man was led to an ambulance, where he was checked by paramedics.
