30 killed in army attack on Pakistani militants

The Pakistani army has killed at least 30 people in an attack on Taliban militants in the north-west of the country.
The operation was mounted in the Lower Dir district, one of several areas where Islamic militants are growing in strength.
A local official said the troops were targeting gunmen suspected of killing a local mayor and several police officers.
The Pakistani army says its forces killed 30 militants, including a commander, while one soldier also died in the fighting.
