Northern Ireland unveiled their final team for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in Delhi on Friday with star boxer Paddy Barnes among the 81-strong squad.

European amateur light-flyweight champion Barnes will be hopeful of winning gold in India after impressing in Moscow at the Euros.

When the squad was confirmed at the Waterfront Hall on Friday night the likes of squash star Madeline Perry, shooting's David Calvert and swimmer Sycerika McMahon were all confirmed as team members.

Robert McVeigh, chairman of the Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games Council, said: "The 12 sports represented on the Northern Ireland team are making their final preparations to compete in Delhi. Members of the headquarters staff will be departing at the end of next week.

"We have a team with a mix of experience and youth - the best competitors we believe from Northern Ireland in their chosen sport.

"I know the public here will join with me taking an interest in those from our streets and districts competing in Delhi."
