SENIOR GARDAI are this week re-assuring people that notorious rapist Larry Murphy has not been to County Wexford, despite widespread reports at the weekend that he had been seen at locations from Castletown through to Blackwater and Curracloe. Both Superintendent Peter Finn in Enniscorthy and Superintendent Maura Lernihan in Gorey have said there is no truth to the reported sightings, with Supt Lernihan adding that Murphy (pictured right) has at all times been under the supervision of the Sex Offenders Management and Intelligence Unit, based in Dublin.
Council parks its problem as space for 43 cars opens up
ENNISCORTHY Town Council has written off €165,000 of debt in exchange for a new car park on the Island Road. The local authority dropped its derelict sites charge on the former malt works after reaching a five-year deal with businessman Pat 'Widgie' Murphy.

THEY'RE CUTE. They're cuddly. But you can't hug these baby seals. Everything about the care of the seven baby seals at the Irish Seal Sanctuary in Courtown is aimed at preparing them for returning to the wild, and this means that human contact is kept to a minimum. The Seal Sanctuary set up its new national headquarters in Courtown earlier this year, and little by little over the summer months, the facility has started to take shape.
Farmers angered by new N30 route
A NUMBER of landowners in the Clonroche area have expressed their concerns about a proposed new two kilometre section of the N30, which would eat into their properties.
Marconi Park 'letting the town down,' say Judges
' YOU ARE letting Enniscorthy down'. That was the message to Marconi Park from the Irish Business League Against Litter this week. Enniscorthy was relegated to the 'moderately littered' division in the latest league table and I.B.A.L. adjudicator pointed the finger firmly at the estate off the road to The Still: 'This was by far the most heavily littered site surveyed in Enniscorthy,' was the conclusion of the inspector.
How Wexford is hooked on Facebook!
WITH more than 500 million active users, Facebook has taken over the world. It's nearly impossible to have a conversation with anyone these days without the 'F' word being mentioned, as more and more people get face-hooked. Wexford people are happily embracing Mark Zuckerberg's networking phenomenon, and it's hardly surprising when there are 1.5 million Irish facebookers alone.
Runners sweat it out in Oylegate half marathon
COMPETITORS in the Fastway Couriers Oylegate half marathon had to sweat it out in the best of summer sunshine at the weekend. Participants in the tough 13 mile test and the ten kilometre fun run drank 1,100 bottles of water in Sunday's heat as they tackled a tough course.
Glorious 22 gold medals secured
WEEKEND TWO of the HSE Community Games national finals took place from August 13-15, with Wexford having a great weekend. Involved in eight different activities, the children brought home medals from almost all of these events. What a record.

CONGRATULATIONS Congratulations and best wishes for the future to the local boys and girls who got their Leaving Certificate results last week. Now that decision time has arrived it is hoped that each got their hearts desire and if the results disappointed any of them that they realise that they can always try again.
